Real Estate Commitment to Sustainability

Bourke Place is committed to achieving long term sustainable outcomes by addressing Environment, Social and Governance matters

NABERS ENERGY

NABERS is a national rating system that measures the environmental performance of Australian buildings, tenancies and homes. Put simply, NABERS measures the energy efficiency, water usage, waste management and indoor environment quality of a building or tenancy and its impact on the environment.

It does this by using measured and verified performance information, such as utility bills, and converting them into an easy to understand star rating scale from one to six stars. For example, a 6 star rating demonstrates market-leading performance, while a 1 star rating means the building or tenancy has considerable scope for improvement.

For over ten years, NABERS has helped property owners, managers and tenants across Australia to improve their sustainability performance, reaping financial benefits and building their reputation.

NABERS is managed nationally by the NSW Office of Environment and Heritage, on behalf of Commonwealth, state and territory governments.

SUSTAINABILITY INITIATIVES

At AMP Capital, we recognise that sustainability initiatives enhance customer experiences, motivate our employees and support positive outcomes in the broader community.
We want to shape a better future, and we're proud to share with you some of the work we’ve been doing so far this year.

We have been working on improving energy efficiency of our buildings and reducing our carbon emissions. We achieved almost 5% reduction in energy consumption, and 5% reduction in carbon emissions across our portfolio in 2018, compared to the previous year. This was achieved through initiatives such as equipment upgrades, LED lighting and installing analytics to better understand and fine tune the operation of our buildings.

A number of initiatives have been implemented at Bourke Place to enhance energy and water efficiency, including:
  • Installation and commissioning of a new Building Management Control System
  • Installation of a carbon monoxide sensor activated car park exhaust system
  • Cooling tower upgrades
  • Energy efficient common area lighting (including fire stairs) and tenancy lighting
  • Energy efficient lighting systems and high water efficient bathroom fixtures and fittings installed as part of the progressive on floor tenancy repositioning
  • UV sterilisation of cooling and heating coils to improve coil efficiency and indoor air quality.
  • New energy efficient chilled water plant (chillers)
  • New energy efficient hot water systems.

Our Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) has been approved by Reconciliation Australia and was officially launched on 20 May 2019. This marks an exciting milestone as we take this significant step towards Reconciliation in Australia, respecting the oldest living culture in the world. We have some events planned to bring this plan to life which we hope you'll join us for.  More information and the RAP can be found here.

We look forward to sharing another sustainability update later in 2019.

WASTE

AMP Capital is implementing a national program of waste audits in line with the best practice operational waste guidelines published by the Better Buildings Partnership. In collaboration with our supplier Foresight Environmental we are improving our monitoring and reporting processes and with your help we are seeking to minimise waste to landfill.

If you would like further information about how you can improve recycling and reduce waste, please refer to the best practice guidelines here.
